WVU Football In Action, But Browns-Steelers Might Steal Spotlight

Posted on October 15, 2020

If the WVU football team records its second loss of the season Saturday, it would be a monumental upset according to the latest West Virginia sportsbook odds. For that reason, an important AFC North showdown in Week 6 of the NFL season might hold more intrigue for bettors in West Virginia.

Just half a game separates the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers in the standings right now, and the odds for online sports betting in WV reveal some enticing opportunities, though not the only ones for bettors to check out.

A look at the Browns-Steelers AFC North showdown

The simple fact of the matter coming into this game is that Cleveland hasn’t won outright in Pittsburgh in the Browns’ last 16 games on the Steelers’ home field. That definitely influences the moneyline for this contest.

The consensus three-point spread bears intriguing data as well. Cleveland has failed to cover in seven of its last eight road games.

The action on the under might be worth some consideration, as the over hit in each of the past four Browns games. This might be the weekend that the trend regresses to the mean.

Pittsburgh comes into the game fourth in the NFL in fewest yards allowed. Additionally, the Steelers are tied for the league lead in team sacks. Here’s a look at current odds at the five WV online sportsbooks.

While that might be the highlight of the weekend for regional NFL action, the Mountaineers do have a game Saturday. If the oddsmakers are right, it won’t be much of a game.

WVU a massive home favorite against Kansas Saturday

If you’re searching for the largest moneyline odds of the weekend, this game might be your winner. The Mountaineers are nearly a consensus 22.5-point favorite at home against the Kansas Jayhawks.

This might be the weekend to bet on the Mountaineers’ offense achieving more than its typical pedestrian offensive numbers. Kansas has allowed an average of 44 points per game so far this season. If you’re looking to compare these teams based on common opponents faced, the Jayhawks gave up 47 points to the same Baylor team that WVU held to 21.

While the over hasn’t performed well in Mountaineer games up to this point, this might be the weekend to wager on WVU surpassing 51.5 or 52 points all on its own. The Mountaineer spread is tempting as well, as the average margin of loss for Kansas in all games so far is 29.3.

There is more local football action on tap this weekend that should be more competitive. That includes two other teams in the area facing off.

Ravens look to perpetuate Philly’s pain; Cincinnati, Washington in action

In a confrontation of feathered mascots, Baltimore comes into Philadelphia as a comfortable consensus 7.5-point favorite. As of Thursday morning, FanDuel had tempting even-money odds on the Ravens’ spread.

That same 7.5-point spread is the same margin that two WV sportsbooks have on the Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts game, with Cincinnati as the underdog. If you’re looking for a reason to stake that bet, the Bengals have covered in 15 of their last 20 games following a loss.

As the NFL regular season will be about one-third of the way over for most teams after this week’s games, Major League Baseball is in the midst of deciding which two squads will compete in the 2020 World Series. That’s the subject of an upcoming promotion for BetMGM in WV.

BetMGM and Taco Bell team up for World Series

For the ninth consecutive year, Taco Bell is offering free tacos to everyone if any player steals a base in the World Series. BetMGM is in on that action for the first time, however.

BetMGM will have a similar market on which player will be the first to steal a base in the 2020 Fall Classic. It also plans to take bets on which inning that first swipe will take place in.

Those markets won’t be live until the ALCS and NLCS are decided. Currently, the Tampa Bay Rays are a win away from claiming the AL pennant. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves hold a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Both series have games scheduled all weekend, if necessary. The World Series is set to begin Tuesday. For every ALCS and NLCS game, BetMGM and William Hill continue their baseball promos.

BetMGM offers a $10 free bet if any game ends in a walk-off home run. William Hill, on the other hand, offers up to $200 in free bets with its Play the Hits promo.

This weekend’s Browns-Steelers AFC North showdown might prove to be a hit with WV bettors as well. Walking off with a profit from any wager is always a winning feeling.
