NASCAR, UFC, and Bundesliga comprise a robust early June weekend menu for West Virginia sports betting crowd.
The organizations performed well for online betting apps in WV in May.
NASCAR starts at 3 p.m. Sunday, and Bundesliga (German soccer) matches occur Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Both have televised slots on Fox networks, which helps their visibility with bettors. UFC is available via ESPN + and unfolds Saturday evening.
Let’s unpack it.
NASCAR betting: Big Names on Display
NASCAR, revving at full speed since its May 17 return, presents the Folds of Honor Quick Trip 500 from Atlanta Motor Speedway.
There have been no repeat winners in the five Cup Series races over the last three weeks, but familiar names are atop the sportsbook leader boards.
Kevin Harvick’s money-in-the-bank stature is reflected at DraftKings Sportsbook, as he is the +500 favorite.
Harvick has finished in the top 10 in eight of nine appearances. He also leads the Cup Series circuit with 370 points.
Here is the rest of the initial top 10 at DraftKings:
- Kyle Busch +650
- Chase Elliott +650
- Alex Bowman +800,
- Brad Keselowski +900
- Martin Truex Jr +900
- Joey Logano +900
- Denny Hamlin +1100
- Ryan Blaney +1500
- Kurt Busch +1600
NASCAR prop bets
Busch is -110 vs. Harvick -121 in a head-to-head side bet.
Keselowski and Logano are both -115 in a head-to-head matchup. These can be fun wagers for action or fairly serious if you have a hunch.
Advantage: You only have to defeat one driver. Disadvantage: Odds-wise, you are laying out a little more than the vig on an NFL game.
One can also consider a four-pack. One of the props offered is Harvick +210, Busch +240, Elliott +240, and Bowman +275. Regardless of who wins the overall race, the top finisher in this group produces a winning bet.
This is your mini-NASCAR, a four-car matchup. There are several packages like this offered.
Match the car with the driver: Harvick, Logano, and Keselowski drive Ford cars.
Elliott and Bowman compete for Chevy.
Toyota is the other major manufacturer, and its main driver is Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr.
That’s important to know on two fronts. One, there is competition with the manufacturers. Ford leads the NACAR circuit with 335 points. Chevy is just behind at 310, and Toyota has 304 points. Like drivers, manufacturers gain points based on how their cars finish.
Second, bettors can wager upon the top car per manufacturer. Chevy has 17 entries, headlined by Elliott at +215. If he is the top finishing Chevy car, he returns more than 2-1.
In the Ford-class, with 15 entries, Harvick is +180, and Keselowski is +350. Typically, these would not be good odds. But if you believe the top Ford finish will come from Harvick or Keselowski, it is something you can play into.
Regarding Toyota, there are only seven entries. Kyle Busch is +135. Martin Truex Jr. is +215, and Hamlin is +275. This area could be live because Busch has not reached his 2019 form yet. The defending NASCAR Cup Series champ continues to be more heavily favored than his performance would suggest.
BetMGM Sportsbook has weighed with some unique props
They include odds for the manufacturer of the top car:
- Ford +125
- Chevy +165
- Toyota +225
UFC betting: Nunes rules the roost
Perhaps UFC 250 could be billed Amanda the Commander.
FanDuel Sportsbook has made Amanda Nunes, its top female pound-for-pound athlete, -850 versus Felicia Spencer, 550, in Saturday’s main event from Las Vegas. Nunes was -335 when the week started.
But many of the undercard fights are competitive, including two involving ranked fighters in the bantamweight class.
Here are the card’s most prevalent fights with FanDuel odds as of Wednesday night.
UFC 250 Main Card, 10 p.m. ET
- Amanda Nunes – 850 vs. Felicia Spencer, +550, featherweight title bout
- Cody Garbrandt -148 vs. Raphael Assuncao +122
- Aljamain Sterling -118 vs. Cory Sandhagen-104
- Neil Magny -154 vs. Anthony Rocco Martin +126
- Sean O’Malley – 480 vs. Eddie Wineland +350
UFC 250 Preliminary Card 6 p.m. ET
- Chase Hooper -172 vs. Alex Caceras +140
- Ian Heinisch -122 vs. Gerald Meerschaert +100
- Cody Stamann -280 vs. Brian Kelleher +215
- Charles Byrd -178 vs. Maki Pitolo +144
The bantamweight division provides competitive matchups on this card.
Garbrandt is favored despite being ranked ninth, while Assuncao is in the fifth slot.
Betting variables: Assuncao is well-rounded, notching decisions in 48% of his wins, submissions at 37%, and knockouts at 15%.
Garbrandt is a superb striker. More than 80% of his victories come by knockouts. Eighteen percent come from decisions. Submissions? Zero. Garbrandt wants to keep this fight off the ground.
Sterling, ranked number two in the division, is -117. Sandhagen, number four, is -106. This looks like perfectly reasonable odds for two fighters who can barely be separated in the rankings.
Sandhagen has a diverse victory menu, with 36% knockouts and technical knockouts. He also produces 27% wins by submission.
Sterling is much heavier in the decision and submission department, at more than 40%. Only 12% of his wins coming by knockout.
Bundesliga betting: The best prosper
The German-based soccer league features three top tier teams:
- Bayern Munich
- RB Leipzig
The rest of the 18-team field is far back. The big three are in action Saturday.
- Bayern Munich hosts Leverkusen
- Dortmund faces Hertha
- RB Leizig takes on Paderborn
BetMGM sportsbook has a considerable betting menu.
Since its mid-May return, Bundesliga games have averaged slightly more than goals. Many of the over-under props on the board are 3.5 goals.
Many Bayern Munich’s games have been exceeding that total. The over for this one is -134; the under is -106.
The Dortmund-Hertha over-under also is 3.5 with the over at the -110 and the under at -125.
RB Leipzig is -162 for the over and +115 for the under of 3.5 goals. Paderborn is the last-place team in the league and barely averages one goal per contest.
Paderborn is 4-18-7. If you think this home team is finally due to win one, the odds are +1450 on the moneyline.
