Sports fans and bettors are enduring a very difficult time where there are minimal live sports still being played. Fortunately, the West Virginia sports betting market is still intact, providing several wagering options.
While retail sportsbooks have been closed along with a lot of other businesses, the online sports betting apps in the Mountain State are open. There aren’t nearly as many markets offered as you would typically find in April, but there are some.
Many Americans are waiting for local sports to return, but right now there’s no telling when that will be. The NBA and NHL are trying to figure out how to complete their seasons, and MLB just wants to start its year.
Fighting fans were looking forward to UFC 249, but that also got shut down. Despite president Dana White’s efforts, the event scheduled for April 18 was postponed last week.
Executives at both ESPN and Disney decided to cancel the fight night because of the crisis surrounding COVID-19.
The only major sporting event still on the schedule isn’t even an actual game. The NFL Draft is set to begin on April 23 with its opening round.
This year’s draft should be very exciting and attract more attention than in the past. With no other live sports competition, all eyes will be on the NFL’s spring showcase.
In the meantime, there are still some options available for those looking to place a bet. All three online sportsbooks in WV feature odds for leagues that are currently playing.
Mobile betting apps include:
Let’s take a look at each sportsbook and examine some of the best betting options offered for the week.
Thankfully, soccer is played almost everywhere in the world. Even though it isn’t the most popular sport in the US, many Americans follow the action throughout Europe.
The beautiful game continues to play in Belarus, among other locations. If this is something you might be interested in, all three online sportsbooks have you covered.
Two games are on the slate Thursday.
Energetik – BGU Minsk is sizable favorites going up against Gorodeya. It’s listed around -140 at WV sportsbooks, while Gorodeya is +370. You’re also able to bet on the match being a draw at odds of +240.
In the second matchup, both sides have similar odds to the first game. Dinamo Minsk is favored to win at -125 over Neman Grodno. The underdog shows odds around +370 and a draw is +220.
Both DraftKings and FanDuel have odds boosts in place for these soccer matches.
You can wager on Dinamo Minsk and Gorodeya both winning at each online sportsbook. DraftKings boosted these odds to +700, whereas FanDuel is +710.
DraftKings also features enhanced odds for Neman Grodno to win. You can take it to score first in the game and win at +655.
Bettors can get a price boost at BetMGM, too. The book shows odds of +400 for Energetik – BGU Minsk to win, but both teams have to score as well.
In the second tilt Thursday, BetMGM boosted Dinamo Minsk to win and the game to have over 3.5 goals. You’ll receive very favorable odds of +650 if that happens.
Belarusian soccer continues on Friday and on the weekend. Sportsbooks will probably offer several other boosted lines for these matches.
Soccer is still being played in Nicaragua, as well. FanDuel Sportsbook lists five different games taking place on Saturday afternoon.
Although some of the games have lopsided odds, two of them should be very interesting.
Juventus Managua is slight favorites at -110 over Deportivo Las Sabanas FC at +260. You can also wager on the game to end in a tie with odds of +250.
The other tight affair involves Real Esteli FC and ART Municipal Jalapa. This game has the same exact odds as the first marquee matchup.
Real Esteli is favored at -110, with Municipal Jalapa the underdog with odds of +260. The draw is also posted at +250.
While many sports fans have their eyes on the NFL Draft next week, you can actually bet on a draft this Friday. The WNBA draft is scheduled to happen Friday night in a virtual format.
Like with many drafts, the top overall selection seems to already be a sure thing. Oregon standout Sabrina Ionescu is a massive betting favorite to go first.
However, sportsbooks are a lot less sure about the next few picks.
According to the odds, the second selection will most likely come down to Satou Sabally or Lauren Cox.
BetMGM shows Sabally with a very slight edge at -121. Cox has odds of -106.
The only other option (unless Ionescu somehow slips) is Chennedy Carter. She is listed at +1200 to be chosen second overall.
The third pick has nearly identical odds. Sabally has odds of -132 and Cox is shown at +120. Carter is once again the player with the third-highest odds at +1200.
If Carter doesn’t pull the slight upset and is still available at No. 4, she’s a big favorite to be taken off the board then. The former Texas A&M Aggie is listed at -182 to be the fourth player picked.
Taiwan Basketball & Baseball
Even though it’s almost impossible to make up for the lack of basketball and baseball in the US, online sportsbooks are trying.
Both DraftKings and FanDuel provide odds for these sports being played in Taiwan.
For basketball, Yulon Luxgen takes on Pauian Archiland. Yulon is a decent-sized favorite on both platforms. It has odds of -360 on the moneyline. Pauian Archiland is listed at +235 on DraftKings and +250 on FanDuel.
FanDuel even gives a point spread for the matchup, with Yulon laying 7.5 points.
In regards to baseball in Taiwan, FanDuel offers betting lines for Thursday’s game between the Uni-Lions and the Rakuten Monkeys.
The online sportsbook sees this game being a tight one, as there isn’t a major difference between each team’s odds. Both have odds of -116 to win the game.
Technically, the Lions have a slight edge because they’re giving the run line of -1.5. They have odds of +130 for -1.5, while the Monkeys are listed at -176 receiving 1.5 runs.
The game’s total is set at 9.5 runs scored.
Modus Icons Darts
Darts is another sport available to wager on that’s offered on every sportsbook in the state. Although it might take some research about the rules and participants, WV books have extensive betting lines for the Modus Icons of Darts.
Most of the head-to-head matchups are very tight in terms of betting odds, but there are a few with a clear favorite.
In the battle between Jason Askew against Jarred Cole, Askew is the favorite to move on. He has odds varying between -215 and -265, depending on the sportsbook.
Even though the odds are against him, it’s possible Cole is a good value bet. You can get +200 odds when betting on him at DraftKings.
In total, there are 10 separate darts matches available to bet on Thursday.
