What To Bet On At WV Sportsbooks: MLB Is Back And PGA 3M Open

Posted on July 24, 2020

The official return of American sports is finally here. While getting the MLS is Back Tournament off the ground was a nice start, the return of Major League Baseball is much bigger.

For the first time since mid-March, West Virginia sportsbooks actually feature odds from one of the main four US sports. The revamped MLB season gets underway with two games on Thursday night, before the new Opening Day on Friday, July 24.

It wasn’t easy, but somehow baseball is one of the first sports back on the field in this country. Beyond figuring out how to play with COVID-19 around, the owners and players endured a long battle negotiating this year’s revenue split.

With all of that now in the rearview, baseball fans can get back to watching and betting the sport they love.

MLB isn’t the only exciting market available at the WV’s online sports betting apps, though.

The PGA Tour is back this weekend with another intriguing tournament. This week, golfers are competing in the 3M Open, which takes place at the TPC Twin Cities located in Blaine, Minnesota.

Even though the action got started on Thursday morning, it’s never too late to wager on a golf event. Online sportsbooks provide new matchups daily, as well as updated futures odds for who will win the tournament outright.

Bettors can also take advantage of some of the other markets offered at sportsbooks this weekend. There is still some European soccer on the schedule, along with more UFC bouts from Fight Island.

Although a lot of gamblers in the state might be preoccupied with the new DraftKings Casino, this is a great weekend for sports betting.

Let’s breakdown the top wagering options and some of the deals available at sportsbooks over the next few days.

Baseball is back this weekend and sports fans couldn’t be happier. The season kicks off on Thursday night with two great matchups, and continues throughout the weekend.

Last year’s World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals, take on the loaded New York Yankees in the very first game of the season.

After what should be an amazing first night, the action heats up on Friday. There are 14 games slated for the day, with every team taking the field except for the four from Thursday evening.

The Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants on Thursday night, too.

Since it’s the first game on the schedule for everyone, there are plenty of great pitching matchups on the board.

In the New York Mets’ season opener, Jacob deGrom takes the mound against the Atlanta Braves’ Mike Soroka.

In 2019, deGrom won the NL Cy Young Award for the second straight season, while Soroka had a quality year himself. The 22-year-old went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA a season ago.

When the two meet on Friday, the Mets will have the slight edge according to FanDuel Sportsbook. New York is listed at -138 on the moneyline, whereas Atlanta has odds of +120.

Run-line options are offered, as well. You can take the Mets laying -1.5 at +156, or the underdog Braves getting +1.5 at -186.

The total runs for this game is set at seven.

There is another fantastic potential pitching duel in the AL East tilt between the Blue Jays and Rays.

Hyun-jin Ryu is starting for Toronto, and Charlie Morton takes the ball for Tampa Bay.

Ryu posted a 2.32 ERA last season to go with a 14-5 record for the Dodgers. Morton was nearly as impressive, going 16-6 with a 3.05 ERA.

FanDuel shows this as another tight opener, with Tampa having the edge at -156. Toronto has odds of +136.

Again, with two great arms on the mound, the over/under is set at a low seven runs.

Betting On PGA’s 3M Open

The PGA Tour is back at WV sportsbooks after another exciting event a week ago. Jon Rahm took home the victory despite having a rough round on Sunday.

The win boosted Rahm up to the top-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking.

While this week’s field at the 3M Open is probably the weakest it’s been since golf restarted, there’s still lots of talented golfers.

Household names like Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Bubba Watson highlight the weekend tournament.

As mentioned, the 3M Open began on Thursday morning, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t wager on it. Online sportsbooks will have new betting markets before the start of each round, through Sunday.

DraftKings Sportsbook features a variety of odds for the event, including matchups, along with tournament and player props.

Before the first round started, here were a few of the notable tournament matchups listed:

  • Tony Finau -125
  • Tommy Fleetwood +100

  • Dustin Johnson -129
  • Brooks Koepka +105

  • Matthew Wolff -110
  • Bubba Watson -110

Once the opening round is finished, online books will adjust their odds based on the current scores. You’ll have the opportunity to take different matchups or 3-ball lines.

DraftKings also had odds for what the winning margin of the 3M Open will be. It showed the following odds:

  • 1 stroke +225
  • 2 strokes +350
  • 3 strokes +600
  • 4 strokes or more +275
  • After playoff +400

Of course, the most popular market for golf is futures odds. DraftKings showed the following odds to win this weekend’s tournament prior to the start of the event:

  • Dustin Johnson +1200
  • Tony Finau +1400
  • Brooks Koepka +1400
  • Tommy Fleetwood +1700
  • Paul Casey +1800
  • Lucas Glover +2500
  • Matthew Wolff +2500
  • Harris English +2800
  • Bubba Watson +2800
  • Russell Henley +3500
  • Erik van Rooyen +3500
  • Luke List +4000

Additional Betting Odds This Weekend

If baseball and golf aren’t your style, there’s a lot of other quality sports going on this weekend.

In the English Premier League, the final standings will be determined on the last match day of the season. Although Liverpool has wrapped up the title, there’s still a lot to be decided.

Manchester City is locked into second place, but the remainder of the top four is up for grabs.

Manchester United and Chelsea both have 63 points, with Leicester City in fifth with 62.

When United and Leicester meet on Sunday afternoon, a spot in next year’s Champions League will be on the line. A win for Leicester would jump it over United and even knock the Red Devils out of the top four depending on Chelsea’s result.

BetMGM Sportsbook shows United as the slight betting favorite. It lists Man U at +120 to win, while Leicester is at +220.

The online sportsbook is anticipating a good match. It has the odds for both teams to score with Yes at -143, and No +105.

In the other crucial EPL matchup, Chelsea takes on Wolverhampton, which is in sixth with 59 points. If the Blues can manage a win, they will solidify their Champs League bid.

BetMGM lists Chelsea as the favorite, with odds of -125. Wolves are currently at +325.

Again, it appears that both teams are likely to put one in the back of the net. The online sportsbook has the Yes option at -134, and No with odds of -106.
