It’s another big weekend for sports bettors in the Mountain State. West Virginia sportsbooks include plenty of exciting betting markets in the upcoming days.
UFC 251 is the top event as the world’s best MMA fighters head to Dana White’s Fight Island. Every fight inside the octagon will take place at the UFC’s new beach getaway at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
Not only should the spectacle be fun to see, but the fights should be pretty good, too. The event features three different title bouts, with Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal facing off in the main event.
The PGA Tour is also another great option all weekend long. This week’s Workday Charity Open has lots of great golfers like Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, and Rickie Fowler.
Even though the action got underway on Thursday morning, you’re still able to place a wager at any time. All of the online sports betting apps continually update their futures odds to win the tournament.
You can also wager on a variety of matchups prior to any round.
Soccer fans have several opportunities to bet this weekend, as well. The MLS is Back started this week and now there is at least one game every day going forward. This weekend includes five total matches.
European soccer is another betting option available at sportsbooks. Both the English Premier League and La Liga have a full schedule over the weekend.
So while WV sports betting fans wait patiently for online casinos to finally launch, there are more than enough entertaining sporting events to wager on.
UFC 251 At WV Sportsbooks
A normal UFC event would probably highlight any sportsbook on most days. UFC 251 is much better than your average fight night, though.
With three different title fights, UFC’s Fight Island is set up to start off with a bang.
Kamaru Usman vs. Jorge Masvidal
In the welterweight title fight, Usman will look to defend his crown against the 35-13 Masvidal. Usman enters this one with a 16-1 record overall, winning his last 15 bouts.
He last defended his title with a convincing victory over Colby Covington in December.
While Masvidal is a respected fighter, he wasn’t originally scheduled for this matchup. Unfortunately, Gilbert Burns recently tested positive for COVID-19 and won’t be able to participate.
At the moment, DraftKings Sportsbook shows Usman as the favorite, but not by too much. He’s listed at -250, whereas Masvidal has odds of +200 to win.
The online sportsbook doesn’t see this fight going to a decision. It has the total rounds set at 4.5, with the under the favorite at -159. You can bet over 4.5 rounds at odds of +120.
Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway
The co-main event should be a wild ride, too. Volkanovski will put up his featherweight championship against American and top-ranked contender Max Holloway.
This fight is actually a rematch of the December meeting when Volkanovski took Holloway’s belt via unanimous decision.
Volkanovski is looking to add another title-fight win to his resume. He hasn’t lost professionally since 2013.
Similar to the main fight, this one should be very interesting. DraftKings features the champ as the favorite at -230, with Holloway at +185.
Petr Yan vs. José Aldo
The third and final title fight is between Russian, Petr Yan, and Brazilian, José Aldo. Its winner will earn the bantamweight division’s crown.
Yan is the favorite at -250 and for good reason. He hasn’t lost since 2016 and won his first six UFC events with flying colors. Yan’s recorded three knockouts and three unanimous decisions since making his UFC debut in 2018.
Although Aldo is the underdog to win at +200 on DraftKings, he’s still a very formidable fighter. Despite losing his last two, Aldo holds a 28-6 record in MMA.
The total rounds for this matchup are set at 2.5. If you envision a longer fight, the over 2.5 rounds are at -182, while the under has odds of +135.
Betting On The PGA Tour
The PGA Tour is on the board at sportsbooks in West Virginia again this weekend with the Workday Charity Open. Even though there have been a few notable players forced to sit out due to the coronavirus, golf’s return has been a strong one.
After winning last week’s event, Bryson Dechambeau isn’t in the field this week. That doesn’t mean that this tournament is short of any star power, though.
Some of these great golfers got off to hot starts during Thursday’s opening round. With most of the round complete, Adam Hadwin is the leader in the clubhouse with a first-round 66.
He’s the only player to reach -6 at the moment. However, several other notable players are right on his heels.
Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama, and Zach Johnson each put together great first rounds.
Once the Thursday session is complete, sportsbooks will have new odds for Friday’s action. This will include lots of player matchups with both two ball and three ball, as well as tournament props.
The West Virginia sports betting crowd can also always take the most updated odds to win the entire tournament. Futures odds will adjust as the play goes on through the weekend.
Right now, BetMGM Sportsbook showcases the following odds to win the Workday Charity Open:
- Collin Morikawa +600
- Justin Thomas +700
- Hideki Matsuyama +800
- Patrick Reed +1200
- Adam Hadwin +1600
- Xander Schauffele +1600
- Marc Leishman +2000
- Sungjae Im +2000
- Phil Mickelson +2200
- Viktor Hovland +2500
