It’s been a crazy month for online sports betting in West Virginia.
WV sportsbooks added plenty of their most popular markets back to their regular rotations.
After months of postponement, a lot of the most common leagues to wager on have returned. They include:
Now that players are back on the field, sportsbooks are seeing an increase in wagers. Both retail locations, as well as online sports betting apps, have seen boosts in handle in recent weeks.
The NBA and NHL have begun their restarts with plenty of excitement. Having sports back is one thing, however, being able to watch highly-competitive matchups with playoff implications is another.
Hockey’s new playoff format seems to be a success, while the NBA is finalizing its postseason candidates.
Major League Baseball is off to a hot start, as well. Despite the Marlins and Cardinals missing games for positive COVID-19 tests, the 2020 season is providing lots of entertainment.
In other news, WVU football almost has its schedule for next season set. The Mountaineers are now in line to play just 10 total games after the Big 12 Conference decided to play a shortened season.
WVU will only play one non-conference opponent, along with its nine conference games.
With games against Florida State and Maryland canceled, it’s likely that the Mountaineers open with Eastern Kentucky at home.
It will be interesting to see if college football betting is available throughout the entire year. While WVU athletics has been mostly healthy, some programs are struggling with containing the coronavirus.
Sportsbooks and fans alike will be devastated if there isn’t college football this fall.
Let’s take a look at the best options at WV online sportsbooks this weekend and breakdown any promotions in place.
PGA Championship betting odds
Although the return of golf has helped boost the available markets at sportsbooks, fans haven’t had the opportunity to bet on a major until this weekend.
The PGA Championship marks the first major tournament of the season and should bring in more excitement than any other event to date.
The usual golf calendar gets the majors underway in April, with the Masters. However, with all of the rescheduling from COVID-19 this year, the PGA is the first of three major championships.
The Open Championship, known by many as the British Open, was already canceled.
Like with all important tournaments, the world’s best golfers are all participating this week. There is no shortage of star power as the players begin to tee off from TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California.
This is the 102nd PGA Championship.
As the play begins on Thursday morning, bettors in WV can get some action on the tournament whenever they please. Online sportsbooks constantly provide updated odds to win every golf event and have a variety of new markets before each round.
DraftKings Sportsbook includes several tournament and player props, as well as matchups for the entire event or individual days.
Before the opening round started, the online sportsbook listed the following odds for these interesting matchups:

- Rory McIlroy -137 and Patrick Cantlay +110
- Bryson Dechambeau -112 and Xander Schauffele -112
- Webb Simpson -125 and Daniel Berger +100
There are more than enough ways to bet on the PGA Championship with DraftKings. If matchups aren’t your favorite, you can wager on props like the highest finishing player from each nationality.

NBA betting at WV Sportsbooks
The NBA also has a full slate of games to wager on this weekend. WV sportsbooks offer odds on 18 different matchups from Friday through Sunday.
So far, the restart of the season is going well. There haven’t been many positive coronavirus cases at all, and games are going right down to the wire.
The NBA still has a few games left on its regular-season schedule, before starting up the usual 16-team postseason.
While teams like the Los Angeles Lakers can now coast through the final games after securing the West’s top seed, others cannot.
Memphis’ grip on the eighth spot is dwindling, with Portland now just a game behind. Several other teams, like the Spurs and Pelicans, are right on its heels, too.
The Pelicans are led by rookie phenom Zion Williamson. Many are hoping they can win down the stretch and qualify for a playoff series opposing the Lakers.
On Friday, the Pelicans will have a chance to take down the Washington Wizards in a game where they’ll most likely be favorites.
Lines aren’t available yet because New Orleans has a game to play on Thursday afternoon.
FanDuel Sportsbook lists the Pelicans as the favorite here as well, laying -4 to Sacramento. Bettors can also take their moneyline at -178 or the Kings’ odds of +150.
The Trail Blazers are another team to keep an eye on. They still need to make up ground to get in the playoffs, so their games are some of the most exciting.
This weekend includes a great tilt between the Blazers and the Clippers on Saturday afternoon. It will be interesting to see what the spread for this one is, as the Clippers don’t have entirely too much to play for.
On FanDuel, Portland is the favorite for Thursday night’s game against Denver. The online sportsbook shows it laying -4 points, with a -184 moneyline. Denver has odds of +154.
Betting On The NHL And MLB
If you’re not a big fan of golf or the NBA, there are a lot of NHL and MLB games to pick from, as well.
Even though some teams are struggling with COVID-19, the baseball season is continuing to plug along.
One of the hottest teams in the sport is not really a surprise to anyone. The New York Yankees are off to a 9-2 start and looked poised for a title run.
This weekend, they’ll battle the Tampa Bay Rays for four games, including a double-header on Saturday. Since the baseball season is shortened and pressed for time, double-headers are now just seven innings in duration.
The Yanks will most likely be favorites to take the series, however, Tampa is probably the second-best team in the division.
Before sportsbooks list odds for this weekend’s series, the Yankees must finish their series with the Phillies.
BetMGM Sportsbook features New York as the favorite at -143, with the Phils at +130.
The online sportsbook also includes a price boost for this contest. If the Yankees win and Aaron Judge hits a homerun, you can cash in on +400 odds. Judge leads the majors in homers with seven.
BetMGM has you covered for the NHL playoffs, too.
In the Eastern Conference, Toronto and Columbus are wrapped up in what appears is going to be a long series. The two sides split the first two games of their best-of-five qualifier.
They play Game 3 on Thursday night, followed by Game 4 on Friday. If they happen to split these games as well, they’ll meet for a Game 5 on Sunday.
BetMGM shows Toronto as the -150 favorite for Thursday night, with Columbus at +125. If Auston Matthews scores and the Leafs come out victorious, you can earn +325 odds from the online sportsbook.
