WV Sportsbooks High On Justin Thomas And Steelers, Undecided On Eagles

Posted on September 18, 2020

For the second consecutive weekend, West Virginia online sports betting will be focused on US Open odds. This weekend it’s men’s golf in that spotlight, however, instead of tennis.

WV sportsbooks certainly have their favorites in that event, as they do with the upcoming regional NFL games. In some of those games, though, they are far more certain than in others.

A look at the latest US Open odds for WV online sports betting

Justin Thomas has taken the top position as the consensus favorite to win at Winged Foot this weekend. BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel all list him at +450, while William Hill has him +400 to finish atop the leaderboard.

Jon Rahm is in the second position at all four of those books, with the longest odds sitting at +700 at DraftKings. The par-70 course only has two par-5 holes, so its challenging layout gives those who can control their drives off the tee an advantage.

Tiger Woods is playing this weekend, and, despite his three past victories in this event, is a long shot. BetMGM and William Hill both currently have him +15000 to win this event a fourth time.

In evaluating the prospects as the event continues, bettors should give deference to competitors who have shown an ability to either stay out of or overcome the roughs. Strokes can add up fast at Winged Foot.

2019 winner Gary Woodland said of the course this week, “We lost a ball for about five minutes and it was right in front of me. We didn’t find it until we stepped on it. The golf ball can disappear pretty quickly.”

While golfers try to avoid the rough, bettors shouldn’t have a rough time finding markets they like for the US Open in WV. DraftKings is offering a 30% profit boost you can use each day of the tournament, for example.

There are even more promos available on this weekend’s football games. After the two Ohio teams face each other for the first time this season Thursday night, other regional teams have diverse prospects on Sunday.

This weekend’s NFL odds at WV online sportsbooks

WV online sportsbooks are buying the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday but aren’t really sure what to make of the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend. Here are the latest Philly odds at all four of the aforementioned books:

BetMGMRams -112
Eagles -106
Rams -1 -110
Eagles +1 -110

Eagles PICK -110
O 45.5 -110
U 45.5 -110

Baltimore and Pittsburgh are both comfortable and consensus favorites in their games, on the other hand. The shortest moneyline odds on the Steelers are -330 at William Hill, while FanDuel has the shortest odds on the Ravens at -295.

With only one game in the books so far, it’s difficult to draw many conclusions about how to bet these teams. That’s part of the reason why the books are probably so hesitant to declare a winner for the Eagles-Rams game.

That uncertainty can mean an opportunity for bettors. As the game progresses, there could be attractive live odds that might be of interest.

For example, markets on Eagles wide receiver Dallas Goedert following up his eight-catch, 101-yard-with-a-touchdown performance from Week 1 with an equal performance against the Rams defense might be juicy.

DraftKings is offering a 25% profit boost for every Week 2 NFL game. Other NFL promos at WV sportsbooks include:

  • BetMGM will give you a free live bet worth up to $20 if you place at least $50 in NFL in-game wagers.
  • FanDuel Football Double-Up: Place a pregame moneyline wager on any NFL game. If your team wins and scores at least 35 points in the game, FanDuel will double your profit up to $50.
  • William Hill’s 5-Game Pick ‘Em: Bet at least $20 on the spreads of five Sunday games starting at 1 p.m. ET. If you win all five, William Hill will reward you with an extra $100.

Regardless of how you want to bet this weekend, WV sportsbooks have you covered. If you’re confident about the results of the Eagles game, you might have a leg up on the house.
